Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory

OADDL is a full service veterinary medical diagnostic laboratory located on the Oklahoma State University campus. OADDL is a unit of the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine and receives over 25,000 accessions and conducts more than 180,000 tests per year. Submissions to the laboratory come from all of Oklahoma’s 77 counties and over 40 states. The operating expenses are covered by state appropriations and fees charged for services.

Who We Are


To promote the overall well-being of animals through diagnostic testing, instruction of professional veterinary students and research in diseases of economic importance to Oklahoma and beyond.


To be recognized as a leader in veterinary diagnostics through excellence in diagnostic service, research efforts leading to improved animal disease testing and surveillance and sustained accreditation by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians.


OADDL’s clients include the College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital, practitioners, commercial livestock companies, individual animal owners, state and federal agencies and researchers from OSU and other institutions. Our services cover all animal species including laboratory animals, pets, livestock, wildlife and exotic zoo animals.

After-Hours Lab Services

For emergency submissions on weekends or holidays, please call the lab to schedule a delivery time between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

An emergency/after-hours fee will be assessed on the submission of these specimens.

Emergency/After-Hours Services

Animals are received for necropsy exam or rabies testing at any time during routine business hours Monday - Friday. OADDL does not offer emergency services on Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day.
For your convenience, small samples may be deposited 24/7 in the west (receiving) entry of OADDL.  Specimens may be deposited in the following:
  • Mini-refrigerator:  culture swabs, fresh tissue, blood samples
  • Incubator:  trichomoniasis pouches
  • Pass-thru window:  specimens that can be maintained at room temperature (e.g. formalin-fixed tissues, blood culture bottles, Campylobacter culture tubes, etc.)
